Build Intention Into Your LinkedIn Introductions

"What are you looking to accomplish?"

This is the main question that I ask people when they reach out via an invitation to connect via LinkedIn.

It is a given that by being on a social platform that caters to professional networking, people have a goal to network. However, what is your true objective?

Are you seeking employment?

Are you looking for a reference?

Are you selling a product/service?

Are you looking for conversation?

There are millions of objectives that would warrant someone to want to network. The challenge is when that objective isn't communicated during the initial interaction.

Only you know why you do what you do, which makes it important to clearly communicate why you want to connect with each individual you invite into your LinkedIn network.

The number one question that I have when I receive a request to connect is "What do you want to accomplish".

Followed by "Why are you reaching out to me".

If you can address this during your personal invitation, you'll find that more people will be willing to accept your invitation to connect.

Remember, networking is about connecting in such a way that you create mutual benefit and it starts with you giving.

What are your top objectives when inviting people to connect with you via LinkedIn? Share your thoughts in the comments.
